Try building your own food chain and see what happens....BUILDAFOODCHAIN Another good resource HERE. This source gives you more specific information on food chains and food webs including definitions for herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, producers and decomposers! The following will give you a good overview of what a Food Chain is. The second one is an episode of Wild Kratts =) Bioinvasion - This video has a rather monotone voice-over, but I like how it presents the information in a clear easy to follow manner and provides lots of examples. Look up any of these and see if it relates to your ecosystem!! Water & Carbon Cycle and Energy FlowRemember that a cycle is something that continues and goes on and on and on indefinitely. Water, carbon and energy move through our environment constantly enabling life to continue. What is the difference between the water and carbon cycles? In your portfolio, I did write "Energy Cycle" but in my own continuous learning, I found that it makes more sense to call it an energy FLOW. My question to you is: "Why does energy NOT cycle but FLOW through our system????" Watch the videos below to get a better sense. The Water Cycle At about the 2.30 mark, the video gets a bit complicated but watch through it and you will get to the part that explains what the difference is between carbon/water CYCLES and energy FLOW. 1. Describe with words and pictures how Carbon or Energy cycles through an ecosystem.
2. Choose one of the following to describe in more detail and provide a specific example: Bioinvasion, Succession, Adaptation 3. What is a food chain? Give one specific food chain in the ecosystem you are researching. 4. Make a list of 5 biotic, and 5 abiotic components of your ecosystem. Describe how these components might interact in the ecosystem. 5. Give an example of how humans have influenced the ecosystem you are researching (either negative or positive influence) |
