Edible Cell Project Overview:
Students are to make an edible model of either a plant or animal cell. 8A Sept 23rd 8B Sept 29 7/8 Sept 22 Quiz: Quiz on cells and their organelles.
8A, 7/8 Sept 16 8B Sept 18 What do you think a cell is? What do cells DO? Discuss in your group and be prepared to share some ideas. If you finish early, consider why we might need cells. Is EVERYTHING in the world /universe made of cells??? Let's watch some Bill Nye to get a quick introduction.... Do an image search typing in, "CELLS" at your topic. See what you come up with? What do you notice about all the images you get? Anything similar? Anything different?
Using the textbook, or a trusted internet source, label the plant and animal cell diagram I have provided you. Complete the hand out and record the function of each organelle (mini-organ) that every cell has. (Below are a couple of internet sources you could use) All life starts off as one singular microscopic cell. Over time, in complex organisms such as plants, and animals, these cells multiply and multiply until they together become a living thing. Its amazing! |

Cells and Organ Systems
Our bodies are made up of over 100 trillion cells! Each one of those cells is like a microscopic body that has its own nucleus (control centre) much like our brain, and a series of other organs we call organelles. Every single cell undergoes an amazing number of processes that keep us alive as an entire organism. So cool!!!
